On the last leg of their “Parallel Timeline” tour, indie rock trio Slothrust performed a Florida-centric tour of the Sunshine State with local acts in each of the major cities opening. Their southernmost stop brought a show to West Palm Beach venue Respectable Street, with the show initially announced when singer Leah Wellbaum performed solo at the adjacent 500 Block for Bumblefest.

Opening the show, Miami shoegaze darlings Palomino Blond brought a hazy, harder-edged spin on the genre. With stylistic references to My Bloody Valentine and Cocteau Twins, co-lead vocalist/guitarists Carli Acosta and Kyle Fink shred beneath shaggy hair swaying through their debut record “ontheinside.”

With their latest record “Parallel Timeline” released in September 2021, Slothrust has taken to the road on a headlining tour in support of the album. After opening for acts like The Front Bottoms and Manchester Orchestra, the band has shown versatility in both being an indie trio and a pop rock experience. As a rainbow bearing the band’s logo shines behind the musicians, they launch into the track “Surf Goth,” an instrumental that takes Dick Dale to task with a heavier version of tropical sound. Evenly playing from across their discography, the band’s musicianship is unparalleled with singer Leah Wellbaum’s crystal clear alto voice with technical guitar passages, drummer Will Gorin absolutely decimating the kit, and touring bassist Brooks Allison bringing a lyrical musicality to the instrument that’s well featured on a solo cover of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
