Azealia Banks Plays Pilo’s Tequila Garden (pics, review) | WTLGO Mag

Azealia Banks was fresh off a four night, sold-out run at New York’s historic club Webster Hall before coming to Miami. In what has felt like a victory lap for the next act of Banks’ career, re-claiming her agency as an artist and owning her social media personality for her rhetoric. Coming to Miami, the Harlem rapper played at Pilo’s Tequila Garden in the Wynwood neighborhood.

At around 11PM, Miami rapper La Goony Chonga took the stage with her signature bass-heavy reggaeton. Dressed in latex and leather, La Goony appeared glammed out with bold makeup and With her DJ Kira on the turntables, the SoFlo native gave sultry energy through her set. Her musical roots, rapping primarily in English, changed when made the switch to performing more reggaeton in Spanish after her move back to Miami following stints in New York and LA.

A little past 12:30AM on a Sunday night, Azealia Banks took the stage at Pilo’s Tequila Garden to a raucous crowd. The NYC rapper strutted on-stage to her remix of “Salchichon” with the intro of “Murda She Wrote,” a track that while unreleased, gave the absolute Miami energy to open her show. However, her masterful bi-lingual rapping was barely audible due to sound issues that would plague the entire set. For her bigger hits from “Broke With Expensive Taste” like “212” and “Miss Camaraderie” that show off Banks’ absolutely clean belty vocals, the sing-along of pitchy white twinks sadly drowned out her voice. With a set of nearly an hour of Banks killer material, even her singles like “Anna Wintour” and “The Big Big Beat,” her skills as a performer saw the artist singing, voguing, and working the crowd with ease. Ending her set with the track that embodies her ethos “Yung Rapunxel” a malfunctioning megaphone was tossed aggressively towards the ground by Banks as she closed out the show.
