Cherry Glazerr Previews ‘Apocalipstick’ at Baby’s All Right (NSFW)

LA rockers Cherry Glazerr previewed new material at Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right. With new members Tabor Allen on drums and Sasami Ashworth on keys, the band was rounded out with touring bassist Pascal Stevenson of the band Moaning.

Opening the show was Brooklyn trio Ian Sweet, fronted by vocalist/guitarist Jillian Medford the band played material mostly off their debut record “Shapeshifter” released via Hardly Art Records. In the span of a year the band has played alongside local favorites like Diet Cig and acts like Colleen Green. Loaded with off-kilter riffs and Medford’s distinctive vocal style, the group’s pop sensibilities meshed well with the headlining act. In between songs, Medford referenced a recent Joyce Manor show in Brooklyn where someone had thrown a chair from the balcony, repping the California pop punk outfit on her shirt.

Musician Clementine Creevy spent the past two years in a series of pursuits ranging from modeling for YSL, to acting on the critically acclaimed Transparent in between fronting Cherry Glazerr. With their first two records “Papa Cremp” and “Haxel Princess”, the group had a lo-fi, edgy sound that first attracted attention from Burger Records. After some shows with Julian Casablancas + the Voidz and a tour with Best Coast, Creevy saw the departure of drummer Hannah Uribe and bassist Sean Redman. Looking for new members, Creevy found a new sound and approach to the stage. The result, is an unabashedly femme, empowered, rock outfit laden with thick Moog synths, intense drum fills, and of course, Creevy’s skilled guitar work and vocals. With old hits like “Teenage Girl” and “Grilled Cheese”, the band interspersed new material like “Told You I’d Be With the Guys” and “Nuclear Bomb,” expanding their repertoire into extended jam sessions as versatile performers. At one point, Creevy ripped off her black tank top to say “Desexualize women’s bodies!” and “If Iggy Pop can do this every show why can’t I?” With the new music and stage presence, Cherry Glazerr have transformed from hazy-stoner pop to more mature neo-prog rock.
