The first single off her latest record “Puberty 2”, Mitski paints a heartbreaking portrait of nationality and identity in her video for “Your Best American Girl.” Clad in a red pantsuit like a gender neutral Marina Abramovic, the singer parallels an unrequited love, a white, presumably American male who is instead enthralled in the arms of a flower crown donning white American girl. The video, directed by Zia Anger is known for her stylized, lush work with Jenny Hval, Angel Olsen, and even Mitski’s Dead Oceans labelmate Strand of Oaks.
With her tour hitting North America this summer and her first NYC area date at Bowery Ballroom sold out months in advance, the singer has added a second date at Music Hall of Williamsburg (07/27) on sale here.
