To celebrate the release of their latest record, “Back On Top”, The Front Bottoms played an intimate show at Brooklyn’s Rough Trade NYC store. The semi-acoustic performance saw some of the more massive sound of their album scaled down a bit with Brian Sellla accompanied by clean electric guitar, trumpets, keyboard, accordion, and a minimal percussion setup.
Playing some of the bigger singles off the record, the band also threw in some older cuts like “The Beers” and “Au Revior (Adios).” Especially during “Adios” the true devotion of the fan base showed through when the crowd not missing a beat and singing the first verse before Sella could even compose himself. While his signature confessional songwriting may have been less present on “Back On Top” but after “Laugh Till I Cry” the singer described the inspiration for the song coming from a friend DJ-ing a sixteen year old’s birthday party and getting drunk before throwing up on the dancefloor.
