Due to a cancelled show at NJ venue Starland Ballroom, LA singer Miguel played a make-up show at intimate NYC venue Bowery Ballroom.

Opening the show was a DJ set from Alluxe, who is touring with Miguel on the turntables. For his Wildheart tour, Miguel has had Roc Nation singed singer Dorothy who “unfortunately couldn’t be here” but played one of her songs during his set as it was all “in the sprit of sex, drugs, and rock n roll”. With his choice of all-white outfits for the night, ranging from a leather jacket adorned with feathers, a cowboy jacket with excessively long fringes, or the crowd favorite- shirtless, the singer embodied the rock n roll persona.

Miguel’s approach to each show on the Wildheart tour makes each set well-crafted in both performance and technical ability. Teasing snippets of his opening track “a beautiful exit” off his junior record throughout the show, the night kept a consistent tone with the track tying together both his sensual and intellectual side. With the assistance of Alluxe, he infused bits of covers from Fetty Wap and Tupac into hits like “Pussy is Mine” and “Quickie.”

Showing his command of the stage, Miguel crowdsurfed during the closing track of his main set and Lenny Kravitz collab “face the sun.” While his first attempt saw him trapped in a pit of young girls, the singer asked the crowd to “put your phones away” which made for a more successful surf amongst the crowd, leading him to the back and returned him to the stage. Afterwards, he thanked them for “living in the moment.”

The dramatic setting allowed Miguel to offer some words of wisdom to the crowd, through the theme of his Wildheart record, especially on the track “what’s normal anyway” where he took the time to put his shirt back on and “get serious for a second” to offer his perspective on his biracial identity, but allows his fans to interpret it as their motto for self-expression.

Miguel’s electric set ended on three of his true singles starting with his latest the sultry hit “Coffee” before diving into a cover/remix of his track “How Many Drinks?” with Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pools (Drank).” The two electric tracks helped segue into his finale, “Kalidescope Dream” single “Adorn.”
